Eddy House + RYN
Eddy House is a 24-hour daytime drop-in center and overnight living facility for homeless, foster, runaway, and at-risk youth ages 18-24 in the Northern Nevada community. Eddy House is honored to take over the Reno Youth Network website from the Community Foundation and is excited to continue the tradition of this site. Eddy House will be able to give this resource to every youth who is in their programs and those their Outreach team reach in the community. This website can breakdown the biggest needs that are being searched in our community which will ensure those resources are available to the youth that need them.
About RYN
RYN is a community-wide You'N-I initiative to help homeless, runaway, unattached, and aging-out-of-foster care youth ages 12 to 24 in reno.
Goal
Connect the community of Reno and Sparks to engage and nurture our unattached youth so they can be productive citizens with resources to direct the course of their lives.
Stakeholders
1. Youth ages 12 to 24.
2. Organizations, agencies and institutions that provide services, housing, jobs and education to youth.
3. People with resources and connections to build lasting solutions.
4. Caring people like you.
Role of the Community Foundation of Western Nevada
The Community Foundation forges connections, gathers people and resources together, keeps communication open and encourages participation from diverse community members in a way that is creative, respectful and transparent.
Initiative Process
The Community Foundation is guiding the initiative under the leadership of a volunteer Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is made up of youth, agencies that provide services to youth and the Community Foundation. The Steering committee meets monthly. It set the goals for and organized two community-wide convenings, calls together smaller working groups, and planned a holiday party to introduce struggling youth to You'N-I. The initiative is now connecting with up to 90 youth and a total of 300 participants.
Initiative Results
• You'N-I Go-to Resource Guide (Community Foundation).
• Youth Downtown Drop-In Center in development (Eddy House).
• Transitional Housing in development (Children's Cabinet).
• Barriers to services and help are identified and being corrected.
• Communication and collaboration between agencies is creating better services to youth.
• Financial donors are included in initiative process and connected with service providers.
